My name is Amanda Cosco, and I live for fashion tech. I am a multimedia journalist focused on the intersection of fashion and technology, as well as the founder of Electric Runway.
In my career as a journalist, I’ve reported on cyborgs, wearable technology, smart fabrics, and future fashion for Women’s Wear Daily, the Toronto Star, Wareable, and the CBC—among others. I’ve moderated panels on hacking hardware, wearables for women, and next-generation retail experiences. I’ve delivered speeches and keynote presentations on both local and international stages, and served as a Canadian correspondent covering Silicon Valley’s first-ever fashion week. In addition to cultivating expertise in the fashion tech niche, I’ve been recognised by the likes of Intel for my innovative approach to journalism and new media storytelling.
Fashion is in my very fabric: my father heads the made-to-measure department for menswear brand Harry Rosen. His parents (my grandparents) were tailors who immigrated to Canada from Italy. My grandfather was known for the quirky and eye-catching suits he made for media personality Don Cherry.
While most of my reporting skills were honed with practice, I’ve spent my share of time in academia. I hold degrees from three of Toronto’s four universities—a Master’s of Arts from Ryerson University, a Bachelor of Arts from York University, and a certificate of digital media skills from the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD U). Shortly after finishing school, I served as a digital media researcher at the Faculty of Arts and at the Modern Literature and Culture Research Centre at Ryerson University.
I aim to tell the story of how we, as humans, are changing our clothing, and how, in turn, our clothing is changing us.
I currently divide my time between Toronto and San Francisco. Want to collaborate on something awesome? Contact me: amanda[at]electricrunway[dot]com

Peruse some of my professional writing here. I’ve contributed to the following print and digital publications:
I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing many of the makers and shakers of the fashion tech world, including Billie Whitehouse, Behnaz Farahi, Anouk Wipprecht, Francis Bitonti, Francesca Rosella, Maddy Maxey, Nancy Tilbury, Tracy Sun, Tom Emrich and more. Most of these interviews are archived on my weekly podcast, the Electric Runway podcast.
I’ve delivered talks in Canada, Finland, Germany and beyond. Below is my talk on wearable tech and the future of fashion presented at Fashion Tech Berlin in the summer of 2016. You can view all of my past speaking engagements here.
Most of the time, I shoot my own photos for my stories. I specialise in runway and low-light photography for illuminated apparel. Some select snaps:
I also shoot, host, edit, and produce my own videos. See some samples below:
Since Electric Runway was born a year ago, I’ve curated two future fashion runway shows. The first show was in July of 2015 for the Maker Festival launch party. The second was a ready-to-wear showcase put on for We Are Wearables Toronto in August of 2016.
