What will the dressing room of the future look lik What will the dressing room of the future look like, or will there be a dressing room at all? With COVID-19 closing down retail stores, more people than ever are shopping online. In fact, in the 3rd quarter of 2020, eCommerce rose 37% in the US compared to the same period in 2019 📈

While try-before-you-buy experiences have already been deployed in the beauty, accessories, and footwear industries, body scanning and apparel simulation are much more difficult technical challenges. 

DIGITAL’S NEXT FRONTIER IS THE HUMAN BODY, and eCommerce giants like Amazon and Zalando are working on scanning tech to augment the the try-on experience. This can be used for predicting size or enabling a supply chain shift whereby products are made-to-order instead of mass produced. 

So ✨step into the change room of the future, which may not be a change room at all, but will certainly be a change from what we're used to ✨

2020 was a year to remember for many reasons, incl 2020 was a year to remember for many reasons, including how it pushed the fashion industry to embrace a more digital future 🤖 ⚡️🔮 

With the pandemic throwing the fashion calendar (along with the global economy) off-kilter, and IRL runway shows nearly impossible, many brands turned to mixed reality to showcase collections and engage audiences in new ways.

Here are 5 moments that captured our imagination in 2020: 

1. Balenciaga’s VR Game “Afterworld: The Age of Tomorrow" was presented in virtual reality. Invitees were sent an Oculus headset and invited to wander through a future world complete with stylish avatars donning the latest collection.

2. Women's ready-to-wear label Khaite turned heads when the brand released a QR-activated augmented reality experience that put audiences front row for a socially-distant and interactive runway show.

3. Perhaps most overlooked this year was the digital runway show from emerging designer Anifa Mvemba. Hanifa's Pink Label Congo Collection was brought to life not by models, but by 3D image rendering and animation software. 

4. LV's Fashion Theme Park - The iconic luxury brand goes full on shipping container yard with a branded theme park in Miami’s Design District, complete with trippy augmented reality components designed to help you escape reality. 

5. The Circular Fashion Summit - Presented by lablaco, the Circular Fashion Summit took place 100% in virtual reality this year. Attendees from around the world met inside AltSpace VR, a virtual meetup application, to discuss issues related to sustainability, social responsibility, and the environment
