Fashion-First Smart Glasses

Our guest today on the Electric Runway podcast is Alexander Ingram, the Head of Communications and PR for North. North is a Canadian startup that wants to sell you your first pair of smart glasses. Their fashion-first approach to facial computing has investors like Amazon paying attention. Tune in to find out how North’s signature product—called Focals— came from a pivot from a previous gesture-control product. Alex shares more about the high-tech features in Focals and helps us imagine what the future of digital interactions could look like.

Focals by North look like regular eyeglasses but actually include discrete augmented reality features, including voice-to-text, wayfinding, and calendar integration.

In the introduction to this episode, we talk about the Met Gala—specifically, how technology showed up on the red pink carpet this year. The Met Gala is known as the Super Bowl of Fashion. It’s a fundraiser for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute organized by Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue and artistic director for Condé Nast. Stay tuned to our YouTube channel where we’ll be taking a deep dive into the Met Gala, but for now, here are a few looks and resources referenced in this episode.
