A Hybrid Approach to Wearable Tech

On this episode of the Electric Runway podcast, fashion tech journalist Amanda Cosco sits down with Aram Hamparian, the Senior Director of Sales at Fossil Group Canada. While Fossil is known for their watches, many aren’t aware of the company’s partnerships and manufacturing capabilities. In this conversation, Aram shares how Fossil collaborates with leading fashion brands to bring watches and even wearable technology to their client’s product offerings.

Since acquiring Misfit a few years ago, Fossil is now able to create and scale smartwatches and hybrids (that’s watches that combine the aesthetic of a classic timepiece with the functionality of a smartwatch). Aram explains how Fossil Group is able to craft beautiful and intelligent timepieces for Kate Spade, Michael Kors, DKNY and more while maintaining the personality of each brand.

The Apple Watch may be the top-selling watch in the world, but we know it’s not for everyone. Fossil brings variety to the smartwatch category. In doing so, they’re enabling fashion brands to compete in this space while also providing much-needed options for consumers. In an earlier episode of the podcast, we spoke with designer Francis Bitonti, who made the salient point that people want variety from their wearable tech. Fossil shows us how a hybrid approach (combining fashion and technology) results in hybrid products that serve a consumer who’s more sleek than geek.
