Interviewing Fashion Legend Joe Mimran

Earlier in October, I had the opportunity to interview a fashion legend at Takeover Toronto. Joe Mimran has shaped some of Canada’s most memorable brands, including Club Monaco, Pink Tartan, and his namesake brand, Joe Fresh. Today, he’s investing in new technologies to power the retail industry and beyond via his position at Gibraltar & Co., as well as well as on CBC’s Dragon’s Den.

For those who aren’t familiar, Takeover Toronto is a new conference in the 6ix put on by our friends at Tribalscale. I loved working with their team, who were steadfast in their mission to organize an innovative conference that put women and minorities centerstage. The conference is one of the only tech events in Toronto that has a diversity mandate.

My conversation with Mr. Mimran started backstage, where we swapped stories of growing up in fashion families (Joe’s mother was a couturier, while my father and paternal grandparents worked in tailor shops their whole lives). On stage, we covered everything from the fractured retail landscape to the potential for AR and VR in fashion.

We hope to bring you more from this memorable event, including more photos and video, so stay tuned. BIG THANKS to Tribalscale for the opportunity, and to Mr. Mimran for being such a conversationalist. He made my job easy!
