In February 2015, We Are Wearables, the world’s largest wearable technology meetup, hosted its first Women and Wearables event. Electric Runway founder Amanda Cosco moderated a panel on the shortcomings and possibilities of wearable tech targeted towards women. The panel featured industry experts, including Marie Mahony, Professor of Material Art + Design at OCAD, and Dr. Isabel Pedersen, Canada Research Chair in Digital Life, Media, and Culture and Associate Professor at UOIT. The conversation touched on everything from the pitfalls of “shrinking and pinking” tech to appeal to women to the potential of tapping into the female market.
